Bib tagging

Our bib tagging tool is for photographers who host their race galleries on SmugMug. It reads bib numbers from the photos on their website and tags photos with bib numbers so runners can search your galleries across large race albums with far less manual work.

Runners: if your event doesn’t have bib search, ask the photographer about enabling bib tagging.

Why photographers use this tool

  • Easy setup — Enter your SmugMug site address and approve access on SmugMug.
  • Easy operation — Pick an album, start scanning and tagging, and the tool will update the album with tag information for you.
  • Usage-based pricing — You pay for image scanning. Matching and bib # writes to your album don’t add scan charges. Tips are voluntary when you pay.
  • Built for real race photos — An AI pipeline tuned for hard bib reads—small type, glare, angles, and partly hidden digits—not only perfectly straight, full-frame bibs.

How it works

Start by creating an account with an invite code, then connect SmugMug, choose an album, scan and tag, and push updates to your images. You’re charged for image scanning; matching and writes to your album don’t add scan charges.

Done

Bib numbers are written to your SmugMug keywords so runners can search their photos.

Public galleries on runners.photos use the same bib-tagging pipeline—this tool is built for photographers who want that workflow on their own SmugMug catalogs.
